I grew up in Memphis and has lived in the surrounding areas most of my life. I grew up in a single parent home with two siblings and never had much time or means for extra curricular activities. I was drawn to art but didn't realize it until much later. I spent many years in performance choir as my creative outlet, but also doodled on every surface I could get my hands on. Jeans, pages, walls, you name it. And my favorite time of year was when it was time to wrap the textbooks in old paper bags because it meant a fresh canvas. I would doodle to pass time and to help me focus in class. It stopped there for many years. After High school I joined the work force and life became about working to pay bills and sleep in between. Years later, into my twenties I met some friends through church who invited me to a paint studio. I had picked up painting in my own time just as a "hobby" of sorts. The owner of this paint studio loved my work and asked me to come instruct at her studio, I had never taught and was still new to painting, but for whatever reason I said Yes. That "yes" led me to won that very store years later. I ran Let's Paint for nearly 9 years until the Covid Pandemic hit. I had finally realized how much I loved art and needed it in my life, but as more than teaching paint parties, so I decided to return to school to achieve a Bachelors in Fine Arts. My practice today would not be what it was without community, experiences, "yeses" and the love of life and color.
What started as learning as I go in order to teach others, has turned into a love and passion for color and expression. Since returning to school and really diving into my practice I have had the pleasure of creating many pieces. Both for myself, for individuals and for corporate entities. My most recent works can be found in the Landers Center and Allen Lund Company. I also have canvas works in local doctors offices and homes. Some of my favorite works were donated to a local non profit close to my heart, Healing Hearts Child Advocacy Center. As well as time donated to local schools to paint inspirational quotes and images throughout the school to inspire students and staff.
"Art washes away from the soul the everyday dust of life" -Pablo Picasso
My goal with my art is to be a spark or a bright spot in someone's day. A moment to breathe, to imagine, to smile or to just exist. In a world that is so hectic and frenetic we can become so bogged down and overwhelmed we forget to breathe, to live, or even to exist outside of daily routines. When worlds collide in a beautiful symphony of color, movement and shapes anything is possible and my hope is that my art can be that for people. A reminder to be more than, to be bold, to be joyous, and to just "be".
